Essay- On Writing

Stephen King says that to be a good writer you should write a lot to be successful. Well, through his lifetime he always has written. He never gave up on writing. He knew what he wanted, to be a writer, and never gave up on it.
In the beginning of his 'writing carrer' he was just writing for his own pleasure, and his mother read it and gave him quarter for every story. He then progressed onto writing for his schools paper, which he did not enjoy too much. He liked writing about things that he would write about today. But when he was younger his stories were some what looked down upon.
After writing to please others for a while he realized he should write what he wanted. Yes, he went through many rejections slips from when he tried to sell his stories. But this did not stop him. He continued to write, and became a stronger writer as he went. He learned from the statements made by those who gave the rejection slips, and was dedicated to become the best he could.
King had many difficult times in his life. Sometimes he doubted his writing abilities, but not enough to just stop writing altogether, until his stories started selling. His wife was always so proud, and they were in need of the money from the stories also. I think him having the push from the ones he loves is what got him this far. I'm sure without the motivation he wouldn't have the writing ability he does today.
No matter what King was going through, he kept up his writing. After getting hit by a van, and being in pain. He was still writing. Now, that is dedication, and determination. That is what it takes to be a good writer.

  1. You need to work on elaboration and syntax. You seem to use lots of short choppy sentences or fragments and run-ons. Make sure you proof read before you post!
